Local Contestants Compete for Scholarships

Several local high school girls have signed up to compete in the 2011 Miss Cary and Miss Fox River Grove Business Scholarship Pageant. The event will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at Cary-Grove High School. The Pageant is sponsored by True Value Manufacturing and Wickstrom Auto Group. Winners of the Pageant receive business scholarships from the Chamber and various other prizes.

Tickets for the Business Scholarship Pageant are now on sale. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. They can be purchased at the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce office at 445 Park Ave., or through one of the Pageant contestants.

Twelve girls are vying for the title of 2011 Miss Cary including Erin Alleva sponsored by Kojak's Restaurant, Samantha Berrafato sponsored by Sage Products, Alexandra Johnson sponsored by Cary-Grove Performing Arts Centre, Jessica Lehnhard sponsored by Jimmy John's Cary, Roxanne Neubaum sponsored by Malooley Sport & Family Chiropractic, Shannon O’Connor sponsored by Lee's Martial Arts, Sarah Panko sponsored by Safari Childcare, Brooke Senger sponsored by Dolce Day Spa, Katherine Stryker, sponsored by Jewel/Osco, Chrissy Terry sponsored by Angel Adoption, Shannon Tryon sponsored by Frisch & Barrett Insurance, and Megan Ulmanis sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts. Candidates running for Miss Fox River Grove include Mallory Busch sponsored by Merle Norman Cosmetics, Leslie Michealchuck sponsored by Don's Upholstery and More, and Abbey Koenemann sponsored by Wickstrom Auto Group.

The process leading up to the Queen Pageant is designed to provide the contestants with valuable communication and speaking skills and knowledge about local business. They are formally introduced to the business community and area leaders, get involved in community service, and are trained in speaking and presentation skills. The evening of the Pageant the contestants participate in an evening gown competition, an interview session and give a presentation on their business sponsor. The May 21 Pageant will be the last official duty of 2010 Miss Cary Kalee Ryan, and 2010 Miss Fox River Grove Tara Lauritsen.
