*Fifteen dynamic young women will be competing for the crown in the 2012 Miss Cary and Miss Fox River Grove Business Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m.at Cary-Grove High School. Contestants crowed for the title win $1,000 scholarships from the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. The Scholarship Pageant is sponsored by True Value Manufacturing and Wickstrom Auto Group. 

Contestants competing in the pageant this year for the title of Miss Cary are Devin Carlson sponsored by SERVPRO of Southern McHenry County, Margaret Gray sponsored by Cary-Grove Foot & Ankle Center, Rachel Smith sponsored by Modern Wave Salon and Spa, Madeline Gronset sponsored by Cary Travel Express, Arianna Harris sponsored by Dunkin’Donuts, Katey Kelleher sponsored by Cary Grove Performing Arts Centre, Alexis Laverdiere sponsored by Frisch & Barrett Insurance Agency, Lauren Lowe sponsored by Malooley Sport & Family Chiropractic, Crystal Sogar sponsored by H & R Block, Natalie Lind sponsored by Home State Bank, and Shannon Tryon sponsored by Wickstrom Auto Group. Contestants running for the Miss Fox River Grove title are Holly Hagedorn sponsored by Merle Norman Cosmetics, Abby Nick sponsored by Brunch Café, Maddy Zuelke sponsored by Stone Hill Shopping Center, and Keeley Robinson sponsored by Sage Products, Inc.

 The process leading up to the Miss Cary/FRG Pageant is designed to provide the contestants with valuable communication and speaking skills and knowledge about local business.  They are formally introduced to the business community and area leaders, get involved in community service, and are trained in speaking and presentation skills. The evening of the Pageant the contestants participate in an evening gown competition, an interview session and give a live presentation on their business sponsor. Miss Cary and Miss Fox River Grove as well as runners up receive scholarship money.

Cary Farmers Market Begins Second Season on Sunday, June 3
Sunday, June 3 will kick off the second season of the Cary Farmers Market. Come on out and get your fresh produce, eggs, meats and baked items. Last year about 1,500 residents attended the market each week to socialize with friends and shop from a great selection of farm fresh products.   The Cary Farmers Market will be held every Sunday from June 3 through September 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will be located in the North commuter parking lot near the intersection of High Road and W. Main Street in downtown Cary. The Cary Farmers Market offered a wide selection of items, with the variety changing with the seasons. Some Market fare this year includes fresh vegetables such as corn, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, beets, squash, radishes, peas, green beans, spinach, and several varieties of tomatoes; fresh fruits such as Michigan apples, peaches, berries, several varieties of peaches, plums, nectarines, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries; baked goods such as pies, breads, cookies, muffins, and cupcakes; and specialty items such as jellies, salad dressings, herbs, flowers and plants, and more. Each week the selection may vary. New this year is a local organic farmer offering fresh produce and herbs, and an expanded variety of baked goods, gourmet popcorn, quick bread, nut butters, scones, honey, and much more.

The first Sunday of each month the market will feature special events and extra vendors. Free Chamber shopping bags will be given to the first 100 shoppers, free bags of groceries will be raffled off, and there will be outdoor music on June 3, July 1, August 5 and September 2.
