BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA AWARD GEORGE BRAUN AND MISSY ROBEL WITH THE MCHENRY LEGACY OF SERVICE AWARD

2019 McHenry County Legacy of Service
On Friday, April 12, the Boy Scouts of America, Blackhawk Area Council invites you to help honor George Braun, USMC Veteran and Missy Robel, RN at James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center at their annual Legacy of Service Awards Dinner. The event is being held at the Holiday Inn, Crystal Lake. Proceeds for the event will benefit Sycamore District - McHenry County’s scouting program.

The McHenry Legacy of Service Award is received by individuals and organizations in the County that have shown distinguished service to their country

George Braun, who credits scouting with giving him his “first leadership training involving teamwork and moral orientation," started his military career training in Quantico Va. As a USMC fighter pilot, Braun flew over 240 combat missions in Viet Nam. He continued to fly as a commercial pilot while still holding positions in the reserves and to this day is immersed in the community, participating and volunteering across the county.

Not only has Missy Robel helped thousands of veterans through her work at the VA hospital but also a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is committed to providing acute care dental support and various humanitarian/advocacy services for veterans and their families. “Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it,” Robel said, “it flies with the last breath of each solider who [is] protecting it.” Additionally, Robel is involved in dozens of other veteran assistance organizations in the county.

Proceeds for the event will benefit the Blackhawk Area Council’s scouting programs in McHenry County. In McHenry County, 3,492 youth were served in 2018

The event will be held at the Holiday Inn (800 S Rt 31, Crystal Lake) starting at 6:00pm with a social hour followed by dinner and the program at7:00pm. Tables of 10 ($450) and individual seats ($50) can be purchased online at www.blackhawkscouting.org/legacyofservice , at the Facebook event page “Legacy of Service Awards Dinner” or by contacting Laura Cullotta, Sycamore District Executive at 815-397-0210 or laura.cullotta@scouting.org.
