Cary Park District to Host Track Clinics

Cary, Illinois – The Cary Park District will be hosting three separate track clinics this winter. Each clinic focuses on different components of track and field. The clinics are for children in grades 3rd - 8th and are perfect for athletes who are participating or interested in participating in track and field in junior high or high school.

Sprints, Relays, Hurdles, and Shot Put
This session will include instruction on proper warm up, running form, starting positions for racing, relay exchanges, hurdles, and shot put. Athletes will focus on at least two events, as well as, general speed drills and conditioning during the session. This clinic meets on Tuesday, February 27 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at Briargate School Gym. Registration is $15 (n/r $20).

    Jumps, Hurdles, and Plyometric Agilities
This session will include proper warm up, running form, foundational principles of long jump, triple jump, high jump, hurdle warm up and starts. Athletes will learn safe landing and balancing skills critical to plyometric training used in all sports. This clinic meets on Thursday, March 1 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at Briargate School Gym. Registration is $15 (n/r $20).

Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles, Discus, and Non-Impact Strength/Balance
This session builds on the skills from the first two clinics. It is not a requirement to attend the prior clinics, but it is helpful. The session covers more sprint, jump, and hurdle techniques and drills plus the grip and release of the discus. We will also cover the cool down and non-impact strength and conditioning activities that can prevent injury. This clinic meets on Thursday, March 15 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at Briargate School Gym. Registration is $15 (n/r $20).

Registration is accepted online at carypark.com or at the Community Center, 255 Briargate Road, Cary. For more information on the Track Clinics please contact the Cary Park District at 847-639-6100.
