"Library Card Sign-Up Month reminds students, families that libraries are the key to academic success"
FOX RIVER GROVE, IL - This September Fox River Grove Memorial Library is joining the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time to remind parents, caregivers, and students that a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
During September, Fox River Grove Memorial Library will team with Panera Bread to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month. A library staff member will be at Panera Bread of FRG (730 Northwest Hwy) 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. every Tuesday in September (9/3, 9/10, 9/17, and 9/24) to sign up first-time library card applicants, ages 5 and up. Successful registrants will enjoy a free small coffee, tea, or soda compliments of Panera.
A library card opens a world of infinite possibilities through resources and services that give students the tools to succeed in school and beyond - and to connect with family members. From STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) programs, family storytimes, to one-on-one technology assistance, libraries transform lives through education.
"Our library serves learners of all ages," says Nicole Steeves, Library Director. "For younger children, we offer early literacy resources to help them learn to read and encourage school readiness, as well as educational family programs like JG's Reptile Show. For teens and older students, we provide access to technology and digital tools such as WiFi Hotspots and SAT and ACT preparation software, and parents and teens can work together to solve a crime at Murder Mystery Night."
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card. For more information about how to sign up for a library card or to register for library programs, please visit Fox River Grove Memorial Library in person or online at https://frgml.org.
The Fox River Grove Public Library District serves a growing population of just over 4,800 residents and offers materials, services, and programs for patrons of all ages. The Library provides materials and services to help our community obtain information for their educational, recreational, professional, personal, and reference needs. We strive to assist students of all ages in meeting educational objectives.
